Brasil Foods, Singapore Food Form JV : Brazilian food producer Brasil Foods (BRF) has formed a joint venture (JV) with Singapore Food Industries (SFI), a subsidiary of airline catering firm SATS. BRF will hold a 49% share of the new company, named SATS BRF, to be formed for around USD19mn. The remaining majority stake in the new JV will be owned by SFI. Under the deal, SFI will provide food distribution assistance to SATS BRF. 'Together, we can scale up our meat processing to become more productive and to innovate new branded food offerings for the growing middle classes in Asia,' said Alex Hungate, president and CEO of SATS, reports FBR in April 2015. The JV will focus on meat processing and manufacturing of branded food products for distribution to retailers, restaurants, wholesalers, distributors and ship chandlers.
